EUREKA!
That’s the name of the town, it also describes rather aptly a moment I felt in which I realised that although I was solo, I wasn’t lonely.
I met Bill (all names are changed to protect privacy) in Eureka, his niece, her wife and their child. They took me out to grill oysters and drink wine by the ocean. We flew kites and talked around a bonfire and spoke about politics, books and stories. It all seemed very natural that I should stay at a strangers house, in an unfamiliar town and accept food from people I didn’t know. I broke almost every “stranger danger” rule in the book and guess what… I SURVIVED! Not only that but it allowed me to thrive. I had the opportunity to vocalise my experiences which also helped me to understand WHY I’d started the journey.
