Day 16 I AM ASOME

Sometimes having a mantra gets you that extra mile. I found mine in a guest book at a sea front coffee shop and it propelled me for the full day.

“I AM ASOME”- some child 2017

This was particularly poignant for me since my mind was focussed on a time when I had not been so “asome” and was in fact a bit shit. The year before I left for this ride I had neglected to speak with one of my best friends with whom I’d had a disagreement. It is the nature of stale disagreements to expand when neglected and this one had grown so big it consumed almost all of my waking thoughts.

I had resolved to heal on this journey and at least to return home without the burden of regret. Bizarrely (and advantageously) a mutual friend of ours who had worked closely with us on the project within which we had disagreed, was travelling down the West coast as I was travelling up. So it was with utmost pleasure and surprising desperation that I met her and her husband for an evening of beer and wonderful conversation.

The healing power of a good talk over and IPA is incredible and I felt rejuvenated.
